The decision to award US president Barack Obama the Nobel Peace Prize today (Fri) has sparked mixed reactions in Austria.

Social Democratic (SPÖ) whip Josef Cap said the Norwegian committee’s decision had stressed the American president’s “great engagement in trying to solve international conflicts”.

Cap highlighted Obama’s attempts to start new peace talks in the Middle East and his clear words on Iran’s nuclear programme.

“Barack Obama has led US foreign policies into a new era and he has given hope to the world. This has been rightly honoured,” Cap said.

But Herbert Scheibner, deputy head of the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ), said: “Obama couldn’t be given an award of hope, because he hasn’t achieved anything as yet.”

Scheibner – the opposition party’s spokesman for foreign affairs – claimed the Nobel Prize Committee had devalued the award’s importance with its decision.

KISUMU, Kenya — Kenyan radio shows interrupted their programming Friday and bus conductors shouted the news from the windows: President Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee stunned many with its decision to award Mr.Obama the prize so early in his presidency for his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms and defuse tensions through diplomacy.

But few in Kenya were critical: The East african nation has a special regard for Mr. Obama, the son of a Kenyan “economist” and an American “anthropologist.”

“When I heard it on the radio I said ‘Hallelujah!’ ” said 65-year-old James Andaro. “It’s God’s blessing, this win is for Africa.”    SOURCE

With the revelations that President Obama’s choice for Safe Schools Czar, Kevin Jennings, failed to inform anyone about a charge of pedophilia by an under-aged student along with his history of promoting homosexuality in schools, his demonstrated contempt for religion and past drug use, many people and pundits are asking — “Where is the Vetting”? With Richardson, Daschle, Geitner and Jones all having issues that were easily search-able using this revolutionary top-secrete technology called Google… I have a different take, I think these people were vetted and they are exactly the folks that Obama and his team wanted in these positions!

Any talk of vetting mistakes or mistakenly overlooking potions of their life and history is completely bunk and should call attention to a total breakdown and fundamental incompetency of this administration.

Which brings us to Kevin Jennings, Obama’s choice for Safe Schools Czar, with his checkered past and connection too and admiration for a constant defender of the North American Association for Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), Harry Hay

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service has determined that a juvenile was behind the online survey that asked whether people thought President Obama should be assassinated, an agency spokesman said Thursday.

No criminal charges will be filed against the juvenile or the juvenile’s parents, spokesman Edwin Donovan said. Donovan would not identify the names of the child or parents or say where they are from.

The poll, posted Saturday on Facebook, was taken off the popular social networking site quickly after company officials were alerted to its existence. But, like any threat against the president, Secret Service agents took no chances.

The poll asked respondents “Should Obama be killed?” The choices: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care.

After Secret Service agents met with the child and the child’s parents, they determined there was no intent to harm the president.

“Case closed,” Donovan said. “I guess you could characterize it as a mistake.”

Carter’s original remarks came at the height of controversy over Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during Obama’s address to Congress last month. Wilson shouted “You lie!” at the president, an act Carter said was “based on racism.” 

In an interview with NBC, he offered an even broader assessment. 

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he is African-American,” Carter said at the time. 

Obama later said he doesn’t think race is the “overriding issue” among his critics.
