US judge denies Simpson’s request for new trial

LAS VEGAS (AFP) – A Las Vegas judge has rejected former US football star OJ Simpson’s request for a new trial after he was convicted in October for robbing two sports memorabilia collectors.

Nevada judge Jackie Glass said Simpson and co-defendant Clarence Stewart had not made strong enough arguments to merit a new hearing.

Simpson, 61, whose trial for the brutal 1994 murder of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend Ron Goldman ended up in his acquittal, was found guilty on October 4 of 12 charges in the armed robbery and kidnapping of the two collectors in the Las Vegas Palace Station casino on September 13, 2007.

The Juice is no longer loose in South Florida

O.J. Simpson Plays the Race Card, Loses

Before being found guilty of kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon, O.J. Simpson spent his three week trial in Nevada complaining     to friends and associates that he’s a victim of racism. If only the Dream Team had still been around to defend him! If only Johnny Cochran wasn’t dead! If only you hadn’t stormed a seedy hotel room with a gang of armed thugs to get some stupid old trinkets! “This is really depressing,” O.J. told an associate. “I feel like I’m back in the ’50s—a black man in a white justice system. The judge is helping the prosecution as much as she can. I only hope one juror does the right thing.”

In the end, O.J. Simpson comes up a loser in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — In a city where luck means everything, O.J. Simpson came out the big loser — and his unlucky number in a case full of bizarre twists was 13.

He was convicted of an armed robbery that happened on Sept. 13 and was found guilty on the 13th anniversary of his Los Angeles murder acquittal. The Las Vegas jury deliberated for 13 hours after a 13-day trial.

And then, as only the sobs of Simpson’s sister broke the silence late Friday, the lights went out.
