American Finnish Community Club in South Florida

KERHOTALO or KENTTAHAALI as it is called by Finns.

Kerhotalo is the oldest  Finnish hall in Florida.

Kenttahaali/Kerhotalo is good example of what team work can build. Unanimously the members of Kerhotalo decades ago built a hall by trusting only their own efforts. They started from scratch only to grow to full bloom with the members enthusiasm.  The founders of Kerhotalo were ordinary Finnish immigrants who were dedicated to their common goal and were eager to make every effort to reach the goal. The first festivities were held April 7, 1946. Since then Kerhotalo has grown to be a home for different activities. Kerhotalo has had choirs, dances, card games, plays, gymnastic teams, library, movies and  since 1967 ,bingo, which is still played every Sunday afternoon. The hall was and still is truly a second home to many members.

For the first time in history, Finland House (Suomi Talo) and American Finnish Community Club, AFCC, (Kerho Talo), the two Finnish halls in the Lake Worth/Lantana Florida area, are joining together to bring you Finlandia Days 2009. A planning committee with members from both clubs has already started planning next winter’s event scheduled to take place from February 7 – 15.

Tentative plans for the opening weekend include a kick-off dance at Finland House on Saturday night and the third annual Taste of Finland at AFCC on Sunday. During the week, there will be events going on at both halls.

The big weekend of February 14 and 15 is scheduled to include a two-day Tori marketplace at Finland House, using both its indoor and outdoor facilities for its vendors and guests. Finnish foods will be available throughout the day at the Tori and there will be plenty of entertainment for all ages. The Gala dinner/dance is planned for AFCC on Saturday night.
