Patterson Blames Ratings On Racism

Gov. David A. Paterson said on Friday that the chorus of people who believe he should not run for election next year want to keep him out of the race because he is black.

“We’re not in the post-racial period,” said Mr. Paterson, according to an article posted on The Daily News Web site, which cited an interview the governor provided to a radio program hosted by Errol Louis,

“My feeling is it’s being orchestrated, it’s a game, and people who pay attention know that,” he said. “We have a media that doesn’t report the news. We have a media that wants to make the news.”

Mr. Paterson — whose approval ratings and support even among fellow Democrats have dipped this year — also mentioned Deval L. Patrick, the Massachusetts governor and the country’s only other current black governor, and suggested that criticisms leveled against him are based on race.

“The reality is the next victim on the list, and you can see it coming, is President Obama, who did nothing more than trying to reform a health care system,” Mr. Paterson said.Source

Obama in Lake Worth: Says Iraq money needs to be in Florida

LAKE WORTH — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, noting the dismal economy in Florida, said today that some of the billions spent in Iraq should instead be spent in the Sunshine State.

“President Bush has failed to address the crisis on Main Street and Sen. McCain has failed to acknowledge it,” Obama told about 1,700 people at the Elisabeth Erling Gymnasium at Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth.

Obama opened his “Growing American Jobs” summit today with a 15-minute speech, which included asking the crowd to refrain from cheering.

“This is not one of our usual rallies,” said Obama, who has become known for soaring rhetoric and large crowds at his campaign events.

Florida Congressman said to be involved in 2nd affair

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Hours after a married congressman addressed a report that he had an affair with a former aide and paid her to keep quiet about it, details of a purported tryst with a second woman surfaced.

Though Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney did not directly mention allegations first reported by ABC News that he had been involved with the former aide, he issued a statement apologizing to his family but denying he’d done anything illegal.

Later Tuesday, a person close to his campaign told The Associated Press that Mahoney also was having an affair with a second woman around the same time.
