Rep. John Campbell, R-Calif., is a co-sponsor of the so-called “birther bill,” which would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificates.

“Birthers” are those who believe Obama is not qualified to be president, based on a belief that he was not born in the United States.

Campbell is not a “birther” and never has claimed that Obama was born outside the United States or should be disqualified from being president.

On the show, Matthews seemingly undermined claims by some that Obama never has released his birth certificate, producing what Matthews said was a true copy of it.

But Matthews made a false claim. Obama never has released his actual birth certificate. He has released another document, which state authorities often provide in lieu of a birth certificate, called a certification of live birth.

Matthews on Tuesday said Campbell was “playing to the crazies” by supporting the “crazy” bill, and the congressman shot back that it was all about “putting the matter to rest.”

Local incident becomes nationwide race issue.

Here are the police reports detailing the confrontation last week between Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and Cambridge cops, who were condemned last night by President Barack Obama for acting “stupidly” in arresting the African-American scholar.

Cops responded to Gates’s house after neighbor Lucia Whalen reported spotting “two black males with backpacks” trying to gain entry to the home (Gates, returning home from a trip overseas, and his driver were contending with a stuck front door). The Cambridge Police Department reports, authored by Sergeant James Crowley and Officer James Figueroa, quote an incensed Gates yelling, “This is what happens to black men in America!,” and, when asked by Crowley to speak with him outside the residence, Gates replied, “ya, I’ll speak with your mama outside.”

A disorderly conduct rap was filed against Gates, but quickly dropped by prosecutors. Gates is reportedly considering legal action against the Cambridge police.

These two statements alone should convince any objective person that Sotomayor is fundamentally untrustworthy. She is a politician, not a judge. For her, the bench is an opportunity for social engineering. For her, the purpose of a judge is to affect or “change” social values. For her, saying what seems appropriate at the moment is the most important political skill. All major liberals excel at self-contradiction, from the current enemy in the White House on down.

County officials today will weigh in on whether the LA Opera should hold a festival honoring the music of Richard Wagner, an anti-semitic 19th-century composer.

The opera company is scheduled to perform Wagner’s “Ring” cycle opera over several months, starting in April 2010. It will also feature lectures and other events tied the composer.

But county Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who represents parts of the San Gabriel Valley, has introduced a motion calling on the Board of Supervisors to oppose the opera company’s plans to feature Wagner’s work so prominently.

Some have charged that his music, which was admired by Adolf Hitler, represents a Nazi ideology and should not be performed. But representatives of the opera company say Antonovich is attempting censorship.

The board lacks the power to regulate what music the opera company can perform: Today’s motion, if approved, would result in a letter from the board to the opera company asking it to lessen its focus on Wagner by including works by other composers and offering lectures focusing on Wagner’s openly anti-semitic views.

Two members of the white-separatist National Alliance who are serving prison terms for their roles in a conspiracy to frighten minorities into staying off the streets of Salt Lake City will be free soon.

Under order of an appeals court, U.S. District Judge Dee Benson on Wednesday reluctantly imposed a new term of 37 months on Shaun A. Walker, a West Virginia man who had been the organization’s national chairman. Walker, now 40, who originally was sentenced to 87 months, has about nine months remaining on his new sentence.

Travis D. Massey, 32, of Salt Lake City, who had served as a spokesman in Utah for the National Alliance, was originally ordered to spend 57 months behind bars. He now is slated to leave prison in two months, when he completes a 30-month term.

Walker made no comment at the resentencing. Massey said he feels remorse.

The two men and a third defendant, Eric G. Egbert, were convicted in April 2007 of conspiracy to interfere with civil rights and interference with a federally protected activity in connection with the attacks in Salt Lake City of two minority men.

According to a 2006 indictment, the three assaulted a Mexican-American bartender on Dec. 31, 2002, at O’Shucks, a Salt Lake City bar. The indictment also claimed Massey and another man attacked an American Indian man at the Port O’Call bar on March 15, 2003.

A U.S. Army Reserve major from Florida scheduled to report for deployment to Afghanistan within days has had his military orders revoked after arguing he should not be required to serve under a president who has not proven his eligibility for office.
His attorney Orly Taitz, confirmed to WND the military has rescinded his impending deployment orders.
“We won! We won before we even arrived,” she said with excitement. “It means that the military has nothing to show for Obama. It means that the military has directly responded by saying Obama is illegitimate – and they cannot fight it. Therefore, they are revoking the order!”
She continued, “They just said, ‘Order revoked.’ No explanation. No reasons – just revoked.”
