BNP votes to scrap whites-only policy

The British National partytoday voted to scrap its whites-only membership policy in a move dismissed by anti-racist campaigners as “cosmetic”.

At an extraordinary general meeting held in Essex, members of the far-right party voted in favour of changes to its constitution that would theoretically allow black and Asian people to join.  Following the result, the BNP leader, Nick Griffin, said he expected a “trickle, rather than a flood” of applications. “Anyone can be a member of this party. We are happy to accept anyone as a member providing they agree with us that this country should remain fundamentally British,” Griffin told Sky News.

BNP spokesman Simon Darby said that of the “300 to 400 people” who attended the meeting, just five voted against the motion.

Rajinder Singh, a Sikh, can’t wait to become a member,

Rajinder Singh is flicking through the Pakistani channels on his Sky box from his sofa in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Dressed in a crimson turban, he sits a metre from the enormous screen, translating the odd phrase for my benefit. He’s trying to show me why he’s determined to join the British National Party – the only party he considers “brave” enough to “break out of the burkha called political correctness”.  Last year, the Equality and Human Rights Commission forced the BNP to change its constitution on the grounds that restricting membership to ”indigenous Caucasians” broke the Race Relations Act.More

The new constitution, which is not yet publicly available, will be sent to the Equality and Human Rights Commission for final approval. The BNP will give the EHRC seven days to respond, said Darby.

The meeting was hastily arranged after the Central London county court last month told the BNP to amend its constitution to comply with race relations laws or face legal action by the EHRC. After the hearing on 28 January, the BNP rushed out letters to its 14,000 members in order to allow for the 14 days needed to alert them to the proposed changes.

Anti-racism campaigners have said the constitutional change would make no difference to the BNP’s racist ideology. Weyman Bennett, national secretary of Unite Against Fascism,More from source

Götz Aly, the popular historian, accused black Allied soldiers of the systematic rape of German women during the Second World War.

He also dismissed their contribution to defeating the Nazis on the grounds that they were forced to fight.

Mr Aly, the author of the controversial Hitler’s Beneficiaries, made the remarks during a press conference at “The Third World in the Second World War”, a Berlin exhibition aimed at recognising the role of thousands of Africans and Asians in defeating Nazism.

Though he was invited to speak, Mr Aly dismissed what he called a “politically correct” version of history and argued that, in fact, people from colonised countries had a “parallel interest” with the Nazis in defeating imperial nations such as Britain and France.

He compared the behaviour of Britain and France’s black soldiers to the notorious mass rapes by the Russians in eastern Germany and Berlin.

“Every town in southwest Germany could tell stories of rape by black soldiers”, which was “no different to the Russian” practice of systematic rape, Mr Aly claimed.

Some pupils are spending just an hour of their school lives learning about the Holocaust, according to research which suggests there is too much variation in how the events of the second world war are taught. The survey of 2,100 teachers, funded in part by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, reveals that, despite it being a compulsory part of the national curriculum, some schools are skimming over the Holocaust while others dedicate 20 lessons to the subject. The survey comes after a report from the Historical Association this week questioned the quality of history lessons in state secondaries more generally, finding that thousands of pupils were being allowed to drop history at the age of 13 with the curriculum being squeezed into two years. Today’s report concludes that pupils are receiving on average six hours to learn about the Holocaust, but that figure masks a far greater variation. The survey was conducted by the Holocaust Education Development Programme (HEDP), part of the Institute of Education, University of London. Paul Salmons of HEDP said: “Teaching of the Holocaust varies a great deal across schools and classrooms – some teachers are spending 20 [lessons on it], others just a single lesson. http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2009/sep/16/holocaust-teaching-survey

Chancellor Alistair Darling and Foreign Minister David Miliband are among nine top cabinet members involved in outrageous expense claims.

The Daily Telegraph published names of Alistair Darling, Jacqui Smith, Hazel Blears, David Miliband, James Purnell, Douglas Alexander, Geoff Hoon and Hilary Benn as claiming for getting help filling in their tax returns form.

The ministers have used up to GBP 11,000 of taxpayers money to pay for personal accountants to fill their tax claims forms. Darling has allegedly claimed GBP 1,400 for his accountant.

The Labor party has said such claims are within the House of Commons rules.

Darling said he had claimed help to make sure he was paying the right amount of tax and not wasting taxpayers’ money.

He said: “Like many MPs, I employed an accountant to prepare tax returns to ensure that the correct amount of tax was paid.”

Under HM Revenue and Customs rules most people in the UK cannot claim for getting an accountant fill in their self-assessment tax return forms.

Sports Secretary Andy Burnham has also escaped a GBP 6,665 tax over the sale of a lease on his London flat. Burnham said he had checked with the tax office and his actions were within Common’s rules.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith went as far as claiming GBP 240 for her husband’s iPhone.

Meanwhile British Prime Minister Gordon Brown ordered his European MPs to abide by stricter rules and hand in receipts and claims bills every 6 months.

As public anger is fuming over taxpayer money spent over luxuries by MPs, Brown is calling for the reform of the claim systems in place.

Brown has also rejected calls for early elections, despite mounting pressure.

A panel of senior Scotland Yard officers and prosecutors are to decide what action to take over claims that MPs misused parliamentary expenses.

Officials will assess whether criminal inquiries are necessary in the wake of a surge in the number of complaints from members of the public.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer decided to establish the panel.

The move follows several days of speculation as to whether any criminal inquiries would be launched.

A statement issued by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Metropolitan Police said: “Before the recent media exposure about alleged misuse of parliamentary expenses, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner instigated meetings between the Metropolitan Police and CPS in relation to a number of allegations made to police.

“Due to the increase in subsequent allegations received by the Metropolitan Police, the Commissioner and Director of Public Prosecutions have jointly decided to convene a panel to assess allegations in order to decide whether criminal investigations should be started.”

It added: “A panel, comprising officers and a senior CPS lawyer, will commence a series of meetings next week.”

Campaign groups have threatened to launch private prosecutions if the Metropolitan Police will not investigate.

Technically, the police are unable to start an investigation until an allegation or a formal complaint is made.

It is understood some senior officers are unwilling for the force to become embroiled in another complex political inquiry.

Previous political probes included investigations dubbed cash-for-hours, donorgate and lords-for-hire.

As the revelations continued this week, the force stuck to its line that it has received and is looking at “a number of complaints”.

But it is clear the number of complaints soared from an initial six, focusing on several high-profile politicians including Chancellor Alistair Darling.

The Labour politician with the highest expenses claim of any London MP has denied that he was cheating taxpayers by claiming a second-home allowance while maintaining that his main home is a single-bedroom schoolhouse and seaside caravan 70 miles from his constituency.

Defiant Left-winger Harry Cohen said: ‘When MPs were given this allowance they were told “Go and spend it, boys” and that is what I have done. It is my right.’

His comments come as The Mail on Sunday launches a petition to demand a full enquiry into MPs’ expenses, to report within three months and NOT after the general election as is currently suggested.

Mr Cohen has claimed every single penny of the maximum £104,701 in Commons expenses in the past five years for his £375,000 property in his Leyton and Wanstead constituency in East London, on the basis that it is his ’second home’.

Astonishingly, he says he has claimed the full second-home allowance since 1990.

It means he has pocketed a staggering £310,714 in total – believed to be the largest amount ever claimed by any MP.

Yet he declares on his Labour website that he and wife Ellen ‘live’ in Leyton and ’spend weekends at their static caravan’ on Mersea Island, an unspoilt stretch of the East Anglian coast.

If his real main residence is the Leyton house, it means his Commons allowance has funded a holiday home completely unconnected with either his parliamentary or constituency duties.

Israel has launched a third day of air strikes on Gaza as the death toll from the wave attacks passed the 300 mark.

More than 300 bombing raids since Saturday have wreaked devastation, killing 315 people including civilians and children.

Most of those killed are reported to be members of Hamas security forces but the United Nations agency responsible for Palestinian refugees said at least 51 of the dead were civilians.

The attacks have left more than 1,400 wounded, overwhelming hospitals and exacerbating shortages of fuel, food and medicines.

Israel’s Cabinet has now approved a call-up of 6,500 reserve soldiers in apparent preparation for a ground offensive.

The country has also doubled the number of troops on the Gaza border since Saturday and also deployed an artillery battery.

It is not clear, however, whether the deployment is meant to pressure Hamas or part of a planned ground assault.

Israel has insisted it will keep up the assault until militants stop launching rockets, with defence minister Ehud Barack warning ominously that “the time has come to fight” and signalling willingness to put “boots on the ground”.

Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said: “What Israel is doing deserves the strongest condemnation of the international community.

“At the end of the day you don’t solve such problems with military means and such large-scale attacks have led to the killing of 300 people, 1,000 wounded, the total destruction of infrastructure.

“This will add to the complexity, this will enlarge the cycle of violence and counter-violence and this will really undermine the peace process, or what is left of it.”

Britain has joined international calls for an immediate halt to the violence in the region.

Foreign Secretary David Miliband said an “urgent ceasefire” was needed to stop “massive loss of life” in the territory.

He insisted that Tel Aviv must abide by its “humanitarian obligations” and Prime Minister Gordon Brown shared his “grave concern” over the situation.

“The Prime Minister and I are following developments in Gaza with grave concern,” said Mr Miliband.

“The rise in rocket attacks on Israel since December 19, and yesterday’s massive loss of life, make this a dangerous moment which should be of concern to the whole of the international community. The UK supports an urgent ceasefire and immediate halt to all violence.”

Following Monday’s Quote of the Day contribution from EU-enabler and democracy-destroyer David Miliband, I see in my online meanderings that Majority Rights has flagged something very interesting about the same Foreign Secretary, grandson of a soldier the Red Army.

In a speech to the Fabian Society (which Wikipedia describes as “a British socialist intellectual movement, whose purpose is to advance the socialist cause by gradualist and reformist, rather than revolutionary means”) Miliband stated that:

The left has talked a lot about the essence of globalization – a new interdependence born of rising flows of people, money, culture and trade across national boundaries. But we have not talked enough about its consequence – fundamental shifts in the distribution of power.

Power is shifting from West to East. It is shifting from the national to the international level. But there is a third shift – in the balance of power between government and people.

At the beginning of the American Revolution, Thomas Paine called on his fellow colonists to forge a new society where power was dispersed among the citizens. “Let the crown … be demolished,” he urged, “and scattered among the people whose right it is.”

The interdependence born of rising flows of people, eh? So, things like open borders, the erosion of nations and such, then. Not to mention the demolition of the crown. I’m no monarchist, but I have a feeling that when people like Miliband, who deny the electorate a vote on whether or not they want the latest Belgian Shackles, talk about demolishing the Crown and dispersion power among people who have a right to said power, it’s not very likely that they’re talking about empowering the average Joe like you and me.

The supreme irony, of course, is that for all his talk of the power of ‘the people’ and our distrust of ‘traditional sources of authority, even for his talk of bloggers, Miliband and his odious crew stand as the very embodiment of what the people distrust, the traditional authority we loathe, and that which we blog against.

Majority Rights has a good write-up of Miliband’s little speech here, which I recommend reading, but for my part I will simply say that if this speech and the lack of reaction against it is not proof positive that our rights as a people and an electorate have been stolen shamelessly by a militant communist lobby, then I don’t know what is.

Above is a Polish poster from the Polish-Soviet War stating beat the “Beat the Bolshevik” of which Samuel Miliband was a Bolshevik and a traitor who fought for the red army against the Polish who let them in to Poland.

Are the descendants of these the people what the British people want in the British Government?

“Both paternal grandparents lived in the Jewish quarter of Warsaw, before his grandfather, Samuel Miliband, joined the Red Army in the Polish-Soviet War, and after the war moved to Belgium. Hitler’s invasion of Belgium in May 1940 as part of the Nazis’ WesternOffensive split the Miliband family in half: Ralph and father Samuel fled to England, while Ralph’s mother Renée and baby sister Nan stayed behind for the duration of the war. They were not reunited until 1950.

Their you have it people the Polish let them stay in their little ghetto and kikes returned the favour by supporting commism and stabbing them in the back and fleeing when it don’t go there way, no difference there then with the current generation of Milibands.

I also find it interesting that the Nazis didn’t haul the Millibands of the concentration camps more holes in the holohoax story??
