BNP votes to scrap whites-only policy

The British National partytoday voted to scrap its whites-only membership policy in a move dismissed by anti-racist campaigners as “cosmetic”.

At an extraordinary general meeting held in Essex, members of the far-right party voted in favour of changes to its constitution that would theoretically allow black and Asian people to join.  Following the result, the BNP leader, Nick Griffin, said he expected a “trickle, rather than a flood” of applications. “Anyone can be a member of this party. We are happy to accept anyone as a member providing they agree with us that this country should remain fundamentally British,” Griffin told Sky News.

BNP spokesman Simon Darby said that of the “300 to 400 people” who attended the meeting, just five voted against the motion.

Rajinder Singh, a Sikh, can’t wait to become a member,

Rajinder Singh is flicking through the Pakistani channels on his Sky box from his sofa in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Dressed in a crimson turban, he sits a metre from the enormous screen, translating the odd phrase for my benefit. He’s trying to show me why he’s determined to join the British National Party – the only party he considers “brave” enough to “break out of the burkha called political correctness”.  Last year, the Equality and Human Rights Commission forced the BNP to change its constitution on the grounds that restricting membership to ”indigenous Caucasians” broke the Race Relations Act.More

The new constitution, which is not yet publicly available, will be sent to the Equality and Human Rights Commission for final approval. The BNP will give the EHRC seven days to respond, said Darby.

The meeting was hastily arranged after the Central London county court last month told the BNP to amend its constitution to comply with race relations laws or face legal action by the EHRC. After the hearing on 28 January, the BNP rushed out letters to its 14,000 members in order to allow for the 14 days needed to alert them to the proposed changes.

Anti-racism campaigners have said the constitutional change would make no difference to the BNP’s racist ideology. Weyman Bennett, national secretary of Unite Against Fascism,More from source

Danish police on Friday shot and wounded a man trying to enter the home of an artist who drew controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The man, a 27-year-old Somalian who was armed with an axe, was caught trying to break into the home of Kurt Westergaard at 10pm local time, police said.

Police shot the man, injuring him in his leg. He was taken into custody and is expected to recover.

Mr Westergaard, 74, was one of 12 cartoonists commissioned by the Jyllands-Posten newspaper to produce caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed five years ago. He has received several death threats since.
Mr Westergaard’s cartoon was seen at the time as the most controversial, as it depicted the Prophet with a bomb in his turban.

The cartoons inflamed anti-Danish and anti-Western sentiment among Muslims across the world.

Denmark’s cartoon crisis began in September 2005 when the Jyllands-Posten cultural editor Flemming Rose commissioned the satirical drawings as part of a discussion on free speech.

In January 2006, after both the newspaper and the Danish government refused Muslim demands for an apology, a wave of violence ensued during which several Danish embassies were set alight, a boycott of Danish goods was encouraged across the Muslim world and violent anti-Danish demonstrations were held, particularly in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Several demonstrators were killed in separate incidents as security forces sought to control the protests.

Perugia, Italy (CNN) — Family members of Meredith Kercher said Saturday that they were satisfied with the verdict that found American Amanda Knox and her Italian ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, guilty in the fatal knifing of their loved one.

“Ultimately we are pleased with the decision,” said Lyle Kercher, Meredith’s brother. “But it was not a moment of celebration. We are here because our sister was brutally murdered.”

Knox was given a 26-year sentence; Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years Friday for the murder of Kercher. Both will appeal, attorneys said.

The two were found not guilty of theft, a charge filed because 300 euros (about $444) of Kercher’s allegedly was missing.

Arline Kercher, Meredith’s mother, said she believes the two are guilty.

“You have to go with the evidence,” she said.

GENEVA — Four years after cartoons of the prophet Muhammad set off violent protests across the Muslim world, Islamic nations are mounting a campaign for an international treaty to protect religious symbols and beliefs from mockery — essentially a ban on blasphemy that would put them on a collision course with free speech laws in the West.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Algeria and Pakistan have taken the lead in lobbying to eventually bring the proposal to a vote in the U.N. General Assembly.

If ratified in countries that enshrine freedom of expression as a fundamental right, such a treaty would require them to limit free speech if it risks seriously offending religious believers. The process, though, will take years and no showdown is imminent.

The proposal faces stiff resistance from Western countries, including the United States, which in the past has brushed aside other U.N. treaties, such as one on the protection of migrant workers.

Labour has let down white working-class people who have suffered from the impact of largescale immigration, a Cabinet minister admitted yesterday.

Communities Secretary John Denham said councils and government bodies had been ‘blind’ to the needs of this section of society.

The backtracking came in the face of the growing threat to Labour’s core vote from the far-right British National Party.

Yesterday Mr Denham said in a speech to union members at the TUC that efforts to tackle inequality ‘must include poorer white working- class communities, as well as disadvantaged minority ethnic communities.

Mr Denham said areas with high immigration levels felt a sense of ‘insecurity and unfairness’ because of the impact of new arrivals on jobs and public services.

Unless councils act, these could lead to tensions and resentment, he said.

He said: ‘Many local agencies have a clear and good commitment to tackling racism and race inequality and are right to do so. But on its own this is not enough.

‘We can only challenge racism and race inequality effectively as part of a strategy that tackles all forms of inequality and disadvantage.

‘This must include poorer white working class communities, as well as disadvantaged minority ethnic communities.

‘Agencies which have been blind to these issues, or thought their only remit was to address minority issues, must re-assess the way they work.’

His comments are the latest attempt by ministers to address fears over immigration in Labour heartlands, and confront the threat from the British National Party.

Swedish archaeologists celebrate ancient find

People lived in the Torne River Valley on the border with Sweden and Finland some 11,000 years ago, an important new archaeological find has shown.

The settlement, found near Pajala in the far north of Sweden, are the oldest known find in the county of Norrbotten, according to the archaeologist Olof Östlund.

The find was uncovered when archaeologists were searching for ancient remains in the area around Kaunisvaar near Pajala where a new mine is set to open, according to a report in local newspaper Norrländska Socialdemokraten.

“Now the pages in the National Encyclopaedia regarding inland ice can be torn out and burned,” Östlund told the newspaper.

The archaeologists located the settlements in the beginning of September and they have now been dated with the help of radiocarbon dating.

“I had been expecting old dates. But when I saw that the first numbers were very high I felt immediately that this was bingo. When the second number was five figures – I felt faint,” Östlund explained to news agency TT.

He was surprised that the find was so old and compared it to another settlement located nearby in Kangofors five years ago. That settlement had been used 10,000 years ago.

The survey was conducted on commission from a company prospecting for mines in the vicinity of Pajala and will shed light on the first inhabitants of Norrbotten.

“So this is important. Especially as in archaological circles, in southern Sweden, the accepted theory is that there was no ancient age up here in northern Sweden it is thus important to raise the issue.” Source>>>

Reporting from Paris – The decision by Swiss voters to ban minarets on Muslim houses of worship resonated across neighboring France on Monday, stoking an already emotional debate on whether burkas should be banned in public and coloring a government-sponsored debate over what it means to be French.

Commentators and officials in France and across Europe took sides Monday on the surprise Swiss decision, passed in a referendum the previous day. French lawmakers who support banning the burka, the all-covering garment worn by some Muslim women, defended themselves against accusations that the move would fuel a growing phobia against Islam in Europe.

French Socialist Party spokesman Benoit Hamon said the Swiss decision in effect blamed Muslims for “all of Western society’s ills,” and compared it to the three-month-long public debates on French identity spearheaded by conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy.

“I regret that the president is surrendering himself to this type of stigmatization of foreigners and immigrants by associating national identity and immigration,” Hamon said on RTL French radio.

Corrupt politicians accused of participating in massive acts of real-estate fraud and stealing public money now attack the people’s heritage and customs.

Today national dress effectively became illegal in Hungary. And as yet another liberty was denied of the Hungarian people in their own land, and a further step was made in the deliberate eradication of their heritage, there was nothing. No fanfare, no global outrage, no international media condemnation. Just the sight of an elected representative being marched off by the enforcers of the state.
In spite of the incredulity he faced from the MSZP and SZDSZ councillors sat around him, and in resolute opposition to the imperious commands issued to him by the Socialist Mayor. Jobbik councillor Zsolt Gyenge, calmly and politely took his appointed seat in the council chamber of Budapest’s VIth District.

On the day when, by Ministerial decree, the wearing of the uniform of the New Hungarian Guard – or any clothing resembling it – became an illegal offence, the democratically elected Jobbik people’s representative heeded Csanád Szegedi MEP’s recent call, and even though not a Guard member, expressed solidarity with the Guard over the recent state-motivated and press-sanctioned attacks it has been the premeditated victim of.

He wore a New Hungarian Guard waistcoat, over the plain white shirt, black trousers and shoes worn by his Father, and his Father before him; and countless other plain, decent and honest Hungarians since time immemorial.

When asked later to explain why he had taken such a stand, the Jobbik city councillor replied, “I consider it outrageous that a treasonous government thinks it fit to punish those who wish to see order in this country, who defend the people from gypsy criminality and from flooding, who collect donations for the needy and for our Hungarian siblings beyond our borders.”

. . . And now he is in hot water for saying what many Germans privately would agree with: The ‘multi- kulti’ diversity agenda being pushed by the New World Order is choking White Europeans and its rich culture towards oblivion. Sound familiar?

Dr. Thilo Sarrazin, a member of the executive board and head ofkreuzberg-berlin_today_tomorrow the bank’s risk control operations, told Europe’s culture magazine Lettre International that Turks with low IQs and poor child-rearing practices were “conquering Germany” by breeding two or three times as fast.

“A large number of Arabs and Turks in this city, whose number has grown through bad policies, have no productive function other than as fruit and vegetable vendors,” he said.

“Forty percent of all births occur in the underclasses. Our educated population is becoming stupider from generation to generation. What’s more, they cultivate an aggressive and atavistic mentality. It’s a scandal that Turkish boys won’t listen to female teachers because that’s what their culture tells them,” he said

“I’d rather have East European Jews with an IQ that is 15 per cent higher than the German population,” he said.

Dr. Sarrazin has since apologized but his comments may have breached Germany’s anti-racism laws. The Bundesbank ’s staff union said over the weekend that his position has become “untenable.”

Bundesbank chief Axel Weber found himself caught up in the storm while attending the G7 summit in Istanbul, where Turkish newspapers have been in uproar. He was provided with bodyguards.    ARTICLE
